Etiquette Subject Of C. F. Woman's Club November Meeting
The Clifton Forge Woman's Club met Monday, November 2 at the clubhouse in Clifton Forge.

The guest speaker was Dianne Garcia of Covington, a professionally trained certified Etiquette and Tea Consultant. She is founder and director of "Everyday Elegance" in Covington. She emphasized that traditional values have brought an appreciation of civility. She said a foundation of good manners and leadership skills give young people of all ages an opportunity to learn and practice these skills for the rest of their lives.

In addition to leadership programs, she provides dining programs which give each participant an on-site tutorial luncheon or dinner.

Garcia also gives bridal etiquette and wedding planning sessions to complement the couples' personal preferences. She also gives programs to enhance tea etiquette events. She had a variety of teas for club members to sample.

She noted that in this era of hurried lifestyles, people need to take time and enjoy the simple refined traditions of the past with friends and family. She commented that this will serve to promote congeniality in children that can serve them through the years.

First Vice President Shelbia Bayne thanked Garcia for her enlightening program and presented her a token of appreciation from the club.

President Ann Drewry welcomed new member Katherine Bryant to the club.

During the business session, the Community Affairs Committee advised that a monthly monetary donation would be made to the Clifton Forge Food Pantry beginning in November.

A motion was carried to participate in the Salvation Army kettle fundraising effort. Members will work the kettles on Friday, December 11. A monetary gift to the Salvation Army will be made in March.

A motion was carried for the club to support U. S. troops abroad.

Julia Bradley, property chairperson, reminded members of the Saturday, December 5 "Homes for the Holidays" home tour. Tickets for the five-house tour are $10. Tickets can be purchased at Heirlooms, Club Car and Owens Pharmacy in Clifton Forge. Directions to each house will also be available.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center. The guest speaker will be Catherine Smith whose subject will be "Wearing Jewelry from Recyclables."
