- 08/30 - Douthat: Labor Day Weekend Activities - Douthat's beach closes after Labor Day so come out one last time for beach games, nature and history programs, and other entertainment for all ages.
September 2008- 09/03 - Innovative Leadership: Building Community Connections - Residents of Alleghany County and the City of Covington are invited to participate in the Innovative Leadership: Building Community Connections program which begins September 3 at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
- 09/08 - Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program - The 2008 Alleghany Master Gardener training series will begin on Monday, September 8 and continue weekly from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. through November 24. The program will be conducted on the campus of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Room 502, McCarthy Hall. Cost of the program, which includes course materials, is $100.
- 09/11 - Golf & Sporting Clays Outing at The Homestead - This weekend will feature the ultimate in golf and sporting clays when we combine two of the nation's most historic sporting pleasures into the country's newest event (must be a registered guest to participate). 800-838-1766
- 09/13 - Douthat: Stewardship Virginia Waterways Cleanup Day - See how what you do in your backyard can affect neighbors downstream. This event is perfect for 4-H clubs, scouts, church groups, civic organizations, families and community volunteers to participate in cleanup projects and promote stewardship of our watersheds. Activities include stream and trail cleanup activities, children's programs and canoe tours.

- 09/20 - ROCK THE BLOCK - THE KEY WEST BAND - Presented by Olde Town Covington - Main Street, Covington. Featuring live music, food, soft drinks and a beer/wine garden. Gates open at 5:00 - Performance from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. Lawn chairs welcome - No coolers - Must have ID to enter Beverage Garden. Tickets $5.00 in advance/$8.00 at the gate. October 2008- 10/11 - Douthat: Apple Day: A Celebration of Appalachian Heritage - Enjoy crisp mountain air and changing leaves and celebrate the fruits of fall. Spend a fun-filled day in the park with apple butter making, frontier games, frontier hides, campfire cooking, hay rides, traditional Appalachian artisan and craft demonstrations, bluegrass music, clogging and great food, including a pig roast.

November 2008- 11/17 - Douthat: Ornament Making Contest - Area school students, 4-H club members, church groups and scouts are invited to compete in an event in which contestants make ornaments out of natural or recycled materials. Ornaments are judged and prizes are awarded in various categories. Schools may also contact the park for a reduce, reuse, recycle outreach program for their students to go along with contest participation.
